Mountain Heart Nepal has partnered with a University hospital to recommend one medical student to come to the UK from Nepal for a four weeks elective exchange program. The objective of this program is to improve cross-cultural communication and support our colleagues to broaden their clinical method, develop their leadership skills, and to continue their professional development. Moreover, this program aims to develop the future workforce and advocates that are required to address priorities and inequities in Nepal.
Students will observe various aspects of the running of the department (particularly orthopedic surgery) from relevant ward rounds, clinical meetings, teaching sessions and seminars (where scheduled), and with an opportunity to learn about clinical procedures. However, students may not participate in the assessment or treatment of patients.
The timetables and activities are scheduled flexibly at the discretion of the supervising clinician.
The clinical elective placements are restricted to one medical student per year for a maximum period of four weeks, which will take place in October/November. Therefore, applicants may submit their applications before May of every year (at least five months prior to the start date of the electives). There are no application fees for this exchange and Mountain Heart Nepal will liaise voluntarily to support the program.
Due to high demand, those applicants who can demonstrate the transfer of their new learnings from this program to their colleagues will be considered. If you are considering to apply for the Elective placement, please email us the completed application form at mountainheartnepal@gmail.com along with your CV. Only selected students will be invited for an interview via email.
